Study of penicillin fungi reveals great potential for new antibiotics

Even though the penicillin fungus provided the world with its first commercial antibiotic – penicillin – the fungus most likely still has a few tricks left up its sleeve, according to new research.

Research break-through: Producing gasoline in yeast cell factories

There have been many attempts to modify this stubborn little enzyme. But none have succeeded, until now. With these new findings, the enzyme FAS has started to produce sustainable gasoline and jet fuel.

Two researchers from The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability figure on Labiotech.eu’s top 10 of European academics excelling in translating research into business. According to CEO Bernhard Palsson this acknowledgement gives motivation to work even harder on science-to-marked efforts.

Future PAcMEN will hunt for bio-fuels and bio-chemicals

Even though the name implies it, the PAcMEN program has nothing to do with hungry cheeses hunting for ghosts. Instead, the PAcMEN-program – which has now been granted nearly 4 million Euro – will train young researchers in developing new cell factories faster and cheaper.

DTU Biosustain receives a computational power shot of DKK 90 million

A grant of DKK 90 million (EUR 12 million) from the Novo Nordisk Foundation gives DTU Biosustain an enormous ‘computational injection’. The goal is to develop quicker and smarter tools for analysis of big bio-data.

Paper on hemoglobin-producing yeast cells wins prestigious prize

Scientists from The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center For Biosustainability has shown that yeast cells can produce great amounts of active human hemoglobin – the proteins of red blood cells that transport oxygen. Now, the scientific paper has been granted the prestigious B&B Elmer Gaden Award.
